It’s been a month since I last came down from The Mount and spoke to the common man. And woman too. Can’t risk another EO complaint at this stage of life. Might leave a scar too big to cover up in the next round of job interviews.
It’s been a busy month here in the desert. I managed to rid myself of one of my junior officers. He’s a good guy and smarter than shit, but he’s no Soldier. To the day he left country he called our base a “campus”. He never understood where he was or why he was here. It was only a matter of time before he got hurt, or before I choked him out.
The rest of stuff that’s been keeping me busy is all the behind the curtain crap that no one wants to read about. And of course there’s always the stuff that would get me busted if I wrote about it here. So just take my word for it that the past few weeks have been really busy.
Right now we’re in our final approach to the final wind up to come home. It’s time for people to start showing who they really are. For instance, nobody can seem to part with their computers. Everybody is ready to get the Hell out of here, but before we can do that we have to pack up our offices, load them into freight containers and ship them home. Since we have to ship them before we can leave that means we have to collect them up, sanitize them and then pack them before we can leave. Still, no one is willing to part with theirs without a fight. You people would be amazed at the Special Forces guys and senior officers that nearly come to tears when my guys show up to take away the laptops. I’ve been disappointed to say the least.
But still, some of our guys have maintained a healthy sense of humor about life.
It’s refreshing to see that the guys that get crapped on the ones the most are the ones most willing to make us laugh. Almost restores a man’s faith in humanity.
