I have lots of surreal moments in Iraq.? Going to church packing heat used to be one, but that?s pretty common for me now.
Today?s surreal moment came in the chow hall at lunch today.? The 1st Armored Division Band?s Woodwind Quartet was playing for our dining pleasure.? It was mostly Mozart and Bach which is good, cause that?s what you expect from a woodwind quartet.? Then they did Bridge Over the River Kwai which is sort of classical music and it?s something everyone can whistle.
Then came the surreal moment.? A song I recognized started playing but I couldn?t place it, until the chorus.? It was Beth by KISS.? Damn.? Am I already that old?? The music from my youth is now fodder for woodwind groups?? And worse, it?s being played by an ARMY woodwind group.? In a crowded chow hall when no one is really paying attention.
Am I really getting to be that old?
