Ok, I have to confess. I love to watch American Idol. It’s like the greatest train wreck ever happening in your very own living room.
For an example I give you Sanjaya. This is the best example ever on network television of a young gay man that has not come to grips with his gay-ness. Nor has he come to grips with the fact that he is not a singer. The boy has no talent. The only reason I can see for the producers to have put him on the show is to assure that Simon has someone to beat up each week. Other than that, he has no purpose in life. At least as far as this show goes. Hell, he was so bad last night that a little girl in the audience was crying in fear as he danced near her. The best quote about his showing came from the USA Today critic “Sanjaya Malakar sang You Really Got Me as if something capable of inducing great pain had really got him in a sensitive place.” Very accurate.
I can’t dance. Matter of fact most people would rather hear me sing than to have to suffer through me on the dance floor. So no chance in hell that I’d actually watch the drivel known as Dancing with the Stars. The addition of Sir Paul McCartney’s soon to be ex-wife has done nothing to change my
mind. Having her on the show is simply wrong. Not because she’s only one leg to stand on/dance with, but because of the way that she’s treated Sir Paul. It’s becoming more and more clear that she only married him for his cash. Which would be fine if she were to admit that up front, but she played on his weakness when he was getting over the death of his wife. Granted that’s how gold-digging-bitches have done it since Day One, but that don’t make it right.
Now she’s pimping her two minutes of the spotlight into an extra ten minutes of fame. Nice.
Let’s face it. The only good television is on cable these days. The Sopranos is the popular choice for best on the idiot box, but there’s two more shows that you should check out. Both are on FX. One is the new Courtney Cox series Dirt that is nothing at all like Friends. The Riches is the other. It’s worth watching just to see Eddie Izzard as a straight man.
