Shock and Awe
I’m stunned. So stunned in fact that I couldn’t even type this post for nearly an hour after I first read the news.
Professional wrestlers use steroids. Who could have imagined such a thing? I mean I understand why Barry Bonds is a user.
After all, Barry needs every edge he can get to break one of the most honored records in sports. But why in the name of God’s green goodness would a finely tuned machine like Randy Orton need an unfair advantage to help him kick John Cena’s ass? I mean it’s not like his dad ever had to wear a fake arm cast to win his matches or anything.
The younger Orton isn’t willing to dispute the story, at least according to his non-statement issued by WWE.com That’s an admission by omission in my book. And I don’t really care if he admits to it.
In fact I don’t give a damn if a professional wrestler drinks horse sperm to get bigger. It’s all a part of their job description. Like all actors these guys have huge egos, a thirst for attention from strangers, and most likely some really deep seeded insecurities. Why else would they travel 250 plus days a year to roll around with other sweaty men dressed only in underwear? These guys need steroids to stay on the payroll in much the same way that porn stars need fake tits. Nobody is going to buy a ticket to watch average looking guys act like total queers in public.
I’m not arguing that what they do for a living (with no health care benefits by the way) is an easy thing to do. I’d argue that being able to fake fight for twenty minutes is probably harder than a ten minute UFC match. If for no other reason than the goal is to make it look painful with out hurting the other guy.
It’s also safe to say that more wrestlers are killed by the ’sport’ than any other major American sport. The rate of personal injury is off the charts too. Most of the deaths are drug related. Most of the injuries are steroid related, from muscles being enlarged beyond their genetic limits and finally snapping. But that is a risk they take for a job that they chose.
This is a fake sport populated by fake people. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to use performance enhancers to better please their fanbase because by now everyone is in on the secret that wrestling is fake. Baseball, football, and other sports are where the focus should be. In those sports we expect our heroes to be honest with us and not cheat the system.
