Second Order Effects of the Internet

Posted in: News, Random Non-sense — TC the Terrible @ 11:28

One of the things that nobody ever thinks about is the second (or third) order of effects from their actions. I could go on for hours (maybe days) listing examples of this phenomena with the female children that live in my house. But I don’t feel like typing that much today.

A prime example of unintended effects from technological change is the Miss America contest. The ratings are in the tank and a second network has dropped them. I offer that this is a secondary effect of the Internet. With so much porn available for free there is no longer a need to watch young women parade around in bathing suits. Years ago, greasy old men and pre-teen boys could only get their fix by watching beauty pageants on television. Porn films and skin mags were not easy to come by and hard to explain when you got caught. Now anyone can find their fetish of choice with a few simple mouse clicks, and not get caught.

There’s really no need for a .xxx domain name to help you get there.  Ask any 13 year old boy and he can have you hooked up before the question clears your lips.  Give him your credit card and you’ll be set for the next 90 days.  Not that I would know how long initial memberships last or anything.

The Internet has been chided in the past for killing the record industry. It’s also doing a good job of closing down mail order catalog houses.  Now it’s taking out another once thriving business.  Maybe the head of the Miss America pageant should consider making better use of the Internet to stay in business.  Old men and young boys would pay big bucks to watch web cam footage of the dressing rooms and backstage cat fights. There’s probably a decent reality show to be had out of all the pre-contest drama too.

But that would be thinking out of the girls’ boxes.  And we all know that can’t happen.

Is It Just Me?

Posted in: Random Non-sense — TC the Terrible @ 10:00

Is it just me (i.e. my connection from work) or is the new site design for Washington Post dot com the slowest damned thing on the planet?  It's all but painful now to read the thing.

On Line at Work

Posted in: Blog, News, Geek, Random Non-sense — TC the Terrible @ 16:56

According to the latest digital edition of the Post at least 46% of us surf the net at work.  Duh. That’s like saying even fat girls get laid on prom night.
The irony is that most of the people reading the article are going to be doing it from a work machine.   Personally, I don’t have time to surf the net at home so I have to do it at the office.

Current Event Random-ness

Posted in: Pissed, Golf, News, Geek, DC Life, Random Non-sense — TC the Terrible @ 12:54

I’ve got zero time today for blogging.  Damned real work keeps getting in the way.  I do have a couple of comments on some current events.

  • Sugar coat it all you want, but these kids are defending cheaters. Their intellectual property arguements may have merit but that’s a fortunate side note at best.  All these kids are doing is saying that their generation is too lazy to formulate independent ideas.  The MTV generation is the beginning of the end for our society.  Like Mom used to tell me, rules only bother the people that plan to break them.
  • I was pissed that Circuit City was firing people.  Until SDFM told me that she still has a job.  Now I really don’t give a flying fuck.  It’s too bad they cut her current BF, but he should be fine in a week or so.  Think they can out source the sales force to India or Pakistan?  That’s the next step in the process.
  • TV causes kids to be fat?  That’s a crock of shit.  Parents not doing their job teaching kids what to eat and making them play outside is what makes kids fat.  This is smoke screen for adults who would rather have someone to blame than take responsibility for their own failings.
  • We’re winning the Global War on Terror because Iraqi bloggers are happy.  That’s a really good metric to use.
  • If school girls are dumb enough to give someone pictures of themselves naked, they deserve whatever comes from it.  Life is hard.  Being dumb makes it harder.
  • Even with Tiger pushing for a quality event in DC the PGA is still going to screw us.  Tim Finchem deserves a flaming hot poker shoved up his ass.

That’s it.  Time to do some work.

Deep Thought

The true man wants two things: danger and play.
For that reason he wants woman, as the most dangerous plaything.
