You know, if it had snowed this much back in Memphis they would have let school out for the rest of the week.  Here I'm surprised that it even slowed the buses down.  Not that the kids in Memphis get enough education to be able to miss a couple of days in the first place.  Going year round is not the answer though.  I have a buddy back there that teaches junior high school and Open House is his favorite night of the year.  Simply because none of the parents ever show up and he gets a night to get caught up on grading papers.  Out here, you have to sign up weeks in advance just to get 15 minutes with the teacher that night.

And back in Memphis dad's with kids are different too.  I took SDFM to breakfast Sunday morning and noticed a couple of dad's with younger kids and no mom in sight.  Out here in NoVA that's not such a big deal.  In Memphis it meant that the parents were divorced and it was dad's weekend to have the kids.  And at least 60% of the time you would be right with that assumption.

Funny how a few hundred miles changes everything.
