Well at least the final report until next year. THE BOY did pretty well but it’s clear that I’ve still got a lot to learn about car design. In his comments on the original post b made a valid point about the weight in the rear causing lift and the fin creating drag. If this were a larger car those factors would have been greater. As it stands I think that the additional weight may have been staged too far forward. As the video below shows, the car came down hill well but lost speed on the flat portion of the track.

THE BOY’s car posted an average speed of just over 180 miles per hour over six heats. Not bad until you find out that the eventual winner averaged nearly 193 MPH over his six heats. The winning car was taller allowing the weights to be inserted higher into the body. And also in a more compact area of the car as opposed to along the length of the chasis like ours were. All good lessons for next year.

Here is THE BOY’s three seconds of glory. His car is second from the right and finished third in this particular heat. It was his best run of the six. He finished in the statistical center of his age group. He was disappointed to say the least.
