TC the Terrible

Well, not exactly a merit badge, but it is THE BOY’s first badge in Cub Scouts. It’s called a Bobcat badge and last night all the boys in his Den were awarded it. As corny as it sounds, the guys all thought it was a really big deal.

This weekend is the first campout of the year. THE WOMAN and his sisters will be there for the cookout and campfire but refuse to spend the night.  They claim that sleeping on the ground is a ‘guy thing’.  That’s cool with us.  He and I have matching sleeping bags and a brand new tent.  This should be a real treat.

For the record, we aren’t doing serious camping.  It’s more what I would call “car camping”.  That’s were we drive to the county park, park our car and pitch the tent right in front of it.  That way, if it rains or the bugs get too bad we can crawl in the car and keep sleeping.  This is going to be a far cry from the camping that I’ve done over the years.

There must be blood in the water today, because the sharks are already swimming.  Never one to keep up with office politics around here, I’m pretty certain that somebody screwed up more than the coffee area clean up rotation yesterday.  The background music playing near the cube farm sounds a lot like the theme from Jaws.  I’m not certain if I need to spend the day in the company gym, or if I need to hide under my keyboard.

• One thing I do know for certain is that despite having a bigger budget the Yeas and Nays are no match for Big Head Rob.
• Here’s a news flash.  The war in Iraq won’t be over in time for the 2008 election cycle, or any time soon after.  Didn’t the POTUS tell us that five years ago?  Good thing the National Guard is able to find people that are willing to fight the war one weekend a month.
• Kids don’t understand the value of a dollar these days.  But they are willing to have a chip stuck in their neck that will let them check out hassle free at the mall.  Only if the chip is tied to Mommy and Daddy’s credit card of course.
• I get Fernandes’ point that giving in to the protesters demands she be fired sets up future administrations for failure.  But it also seems that the student body is pissed about something more important than the name of the school mascot.  It might be time to try get past job preservation and find a way to save a school from the edge of a damned steep cliff.
• Rainouts suck.  But five straight nights of Cardinal baseball is a good, good thing.
• Google continues its quest for world domination.  While any software not grown in Redmond is a good thing, Google’s new web applications are not very good.  If you are looking to liberate your desktop from Microserfdom try Open Office instead.  It looks like a 1980′s application but is powerful and extremely free.
