TC the Terrible NOW Saber Squelch

I’m late to the game on this, but here it is anyway. T.O. didn’t try to kill himself.  His accidental overdose really was accidental.

Here’s how I know.  There was no press release before hand to alert the media as to which hospital would have the honor of pumping his stomach and there were no critically stationed camera crews to capture the pill pounding live.  Had this been an actual suicide attempt he would have had a two page info sheet ready when the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital.

Owens is too big of a drama queen to let something of this caliber happen without arranging for a media blitz.  Even Wilbon can tell you that.  He’s a first class ass that’s consumed with the camera being on him 24/7.  No way in hell he takes himself off the market while he’s still got the ability to get on the news.  In fact, I’m surprised that his press conference yesterday was as laid back and sane as it was.  I’m also surprised that the Cowboys let him host it on their turf and then let him practice.

That’s another clue that this thing has been blown out of proportion.  If Owens showed new signs of being unstable Jones and Parcells would have put a mile of distance between them and their troubled receiver.  They want to win games, but Jones is smart enough to avoid any legal complications that could cost him money.  If ‘the player’ was a mental case (or at least more than the ‘Boys have agreed to let him be) he’d be back to holding photo ops in his driveway again.

This time it wasn’t a stunt, but with all the headlines and mic time that it bought him the next time might be.

With all the talk of increasing troop strength in Iraq I’ve been thinking about the work the Army is doing. I wish more people would do for our nation what those men and women are doing. Hell I wish more people cared enough to vote. That would at least be a start.

I miss the days when Americans actually believed in our nation’s ability to do no wrong. Times like these we need John Wayne.

Salty over at Sour-N-Sweet went on one sweet (sour?) rant last week about the jackasses that ride the subway in NYC. It is one of the best verbal head bashings I’ve read in an eon or two and I thought it was damn near perfect when I read it. We’re talking David Allen Coe-You-Never-Call-Me-By-My-Name level of perfect but on the Orange Line yesterday I realized it missed a couple of items.

• First, if you are the crazy-more-hair-growing-in-your-ears-than-on-your-head guy on the Metro talking to everybody please SHUT THE FUCK UP. When you strike up conversation with random people on the train and they turn away from you it’s a sign they don’t want to be bothered by you. Take the fucking hint and leave us alone.
• Second, for all of you au-natural hippie chicks that never owned a Lady Bic put your damn arms down. I don’t give a rat’s ass about if you want a bird’s nest in your arm pit but there’s no need to shove it in my face. Hell, at least wear something with sleeves. That shit scares little kids.
