Ok, it’s clear that I am out of touch with my surroundings.  But for the life of me I can’t understand why the hell the World Cup is such a big effin’ deal.  It’s a sport for the poverty stricken of the world.

Which may explain why third world countries (like Ghana) and Euro-trash (see Italy) are doing so well.  It’s a sport played by rag-tag kids without shoes, on dirt patches using a half inflated ball.  Maybe the high number of foreigners in the District is the reason that it gets so much press.

No wonder a real sport like golf has a hard time finding a home in this town.
