One of the major drawbacks to living in DC is the lack of quality fast food. The usual chains are here (McD’s BK, Wendy’s) but that’s really about it. For us first generation latch-key kids burger chains were a mainstay of our diets growing up. I think being from the Deep Dirty South makes the situation even worse.
The “Big Two” that I miss the most are Krystal and Sonic. If I ever hit the lottery my plan is to open one of each on opposing street corners. Krystal burgers are what Yankees would call a “White Castle”. I’ve eaten my share of both and the Krystal is by far the better tasting. Often called “rat burgers” or “gut bombs” they are the perfect food for capping off a long night of drinking and whore chasing.
Sonic is a bit more refinded, if you consider eating in your car refined. The claim to fame for Sonic is their Route 44 (44 ounces tall) Cherry Lime-Aide (comes as a slush too) and tater tots. I could spend a week’s pay on just those two items. The burgers are good, but not good like a Five Guys burger. Go for the tots, that’s reason enough to pull in.
Why am I telling you all of this? So you’ll understand exactly how cruel my buddy CZ is. He’s traveling this week and send me this picutre.
