The world is a hard place to be. It's harder if you're stupid.

What’s the water cooler conversation at your office today? I’ll bet that no one is talking about Charlie Brown Gibson taking over the news desk at ABC. There’s not even much talk about how the sidekick of the DC sniper is turning bitch on his one time mentor. Is there anybody talking about Iran maybe wanting to play nice with their new nukes? Well, there’s some of that in our office, but it comes in second to the real hot topic.

McPheever vs Soul Patrol.

I’ve said from the start (yes, THE WOMAN forces me to watch this crap) that Taylor Hicks is the only contestant I’d pay to see sing. But I’ve also said from the start that I’d pay to see Katharine McPhee take her clothes off while she sings. We sort of got that a couple of weeks ago when her dress popped open. That performance got her a few thousand extra votes, and hopefully some grooming tips for ‘down there’ as well. I wonder if it might not have been the factor that kept her on that week since she sang so horrendously.

Still it’s amazing the amount of time and energy that show takes up. If the government really is using the media to distract us from the real problems of the world then this is a key part of the plan. I will be glad when it’s over tonight. Taylor Hicks will have won and go on to cut some pop piece of drivel that we’ll all forget about by next season. Kat will be on her way to Broadway and obscurity. Then the rest of us can get back to doing the Lord’s work of curing cancer and solving world hunger.

We’ve already had one President from Arkansas, isn’t that enough? Mike Huckabee is a nice guy, what’s left of him anyway, but that’s no reason to think he can run a country. Hell, most people in Arkansas are hot for him to run so they can get him out of the state. Just like with Slick Willy a few dozen years ago, only the young girls of the state are safe if Mike hangs around. If he does run, at least his marriage won’t be front page news for anything except its boring normalcy.

I guess if the FBI found $90K in my freezer I’d think it was a “outrageous intrusion” too. And to think that politicians (from both sides) are outraged that the FBI would search one of their homes. Maybe that war on crime thing was just a pretty speech after all. Or are they pissed that they missed out on the big cash deals that were being offered?

So what if the guy was trolling for dates at the truck stops? It not that much different than trolling bars, or using an online dating service to pick up someone for casual sex. He knew where to find what he wanted so he went there and got his needs filled. More people should be so lucky.

For those of you at the Dallas, TX office of the United Way that keep checking this page out; why not leave a comment or two and explain how THE WOMAN and Amanda D are both wrong about your little neo-Nazi non-pofit group? We’d love to hear your side, if only to ridicule you further.

It’s about time that somebody got honest with the public about the United Way. THE WOMAN has been working in the non-profit world for the last dozen years or so and she’s always had that opinion of them.

Me, I quit supporting them when they pulled the funding from the Boy Scout program. Not that the United Way ever had a problem with the way the Scouts were run as an organization, but it was done to make a political statement. Charity groups should either be free of politics or they should give up their tax free status. Ric Edelman, chairman of the United Way’s board can spin all he wants, Untied Way is a chairity in deep do-do right now. They should have stuck to helping kids and stayed away from the gay political movement.

Now that the former financial head of United Way, Kim Tran, has gone public with how they cook the books maybe something will be done about it. United Way was never known for putting a great amount of their donations into the programs. Overhead was always where most of the funds went. Still, it makes people feel good to give and it’s easy to give to a big group with a familiar logo.

If you want to donate money, and want nearly 80% of the money you donate to go to the cause try these guys. The National Capitol Area Chapter of the American Liver Foundation has one of the smallest operational budgets in the area. They pump almost 80 cents of every dollar donated back into education programs and research projects. The web site has more details on how you can help.
