Boy did the ‘Skins get lucky last night! Two good plays early in the game by a great defense really were the game. A young Chris Simms showed shades of his genetics and out played our old broken down QB in every sense of the word. Only late in the game, and when the ‘Bucs really didn’t have a prayer of winning, did Young Simms show signs of being rattled by the Redskins defense.
Not to sound too much like a ‘Skins hater, but they almost got served by a kid barely old enough to shave. The coaching staff of the ‘Skins had better understand that last night’s win came via luck, and not via skill. This team still has problems winning games and that starts with the guy under center.
Brunell only looked good in the post game interview. His ability to not lose games is border line phenomenal. His ability to win games is still in question. Santana Moss did his part by getting open late in the game and Clinton Portis with his sore shoulders kept trying to find the gaps that just were not there, but never once did Brunell step up and show the talent that Gibbs tells us is still there.
Last night, the ‘Skins used two good defensive plays to get ahead of a young ‘Bucs team, that would never go away. Down by a pair of touchdowns the ‘Bucs offense was still the one with swagger when it trotted out onto the field. A key dropped ball late in the game is all that kept them from staging the perfect comeback. In a nutshell, the ‘Skins offense stank the place up.
Gibbs and his Eight Million Dollar assistant coach had better not count on the same happening next week. Seattle may have lost earlier in the season to the Redskins, but I can’t see it happening again. Simply because an aggressive defense isn’t going to be enough next week. Brunell is going to have to show that he can actually win a game, not just keep from losing one, if The Mighty Gibbs wants another victory.
More later.
