Today’s ironic moment came on the elevator ride up to the office. The elevator system has an electronic display that shows news and ads, split next to each other on the screen. This morning it was showing a picture of a Katrina victim on his rooftop, next to a ‘Happy Holidays’ greeting from our building’s management company. And yes, it does lose something in the translation.
I’m more than a bit disappointed that ABC has aired its final edition of Monday Night Football. Granted, television habits have changed since Frank, Don, and Howard dominated Monday night viewing but that doesn’t make it feel any better to see the games going over to ESPN. I guess it’s not really anything to bitch about, and more a sign of me getting older and liking change less than an earlier incarnation would have than it is anything else. Still, if ratings were the real issue behind the change, then the NFL could have done more to shift the schedule around late in the season to put better games on in prime time.
Christmas rocked at our house. THE KIDS were all well pleased, and we got a call from THE SAILOR on the 24th. Everyone seems to have gotten their big desires from the Fat Man in Red Velvet. I think the trash company had to bring in an extra truck to haul off all the boxes in front of our place. The ‘hot and sweaty’ room has been well used over the past few days too, so I’m a happy camper.
Like the title says, it’s back to the grind today.
More later.
One of the civilians in our office was just approved for early retirement I got dibbs on his cube. In a couple of months I’ll have a window with a view of the Capitol dome. Not bad for a kid from Dumas, AR!
