In searching for Christmas music on the net I came across Hard Candy Christmas form Dolly Parton and was reminded how pure and simple her voice has always been. For a gal that made her reputation on her large lungs it’s easy to forget how good a singer she was back in the day. I guess she still is a great singer, but maybe the times have slipped by her. I know that her version of I Will Always Love You will always be ten times what Whitney The Crack Whore could ever do.
Of course Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby are on everybody’s turntable this time of year, but if you aren’t kickin’ it with the Transiberian Orchestra then you might need to update your carol collection. Granted I’m late to the game with these guys, but it’s Christmas music that even FDSM will admit to liking. Anything from Christmas in Sarajevo is worth actually paying money to have in your collection.
After breaking the bank yesterday I finally feel like it is Christmas. THE WOMAN has been great about taking up my slack this year, and I love her even more for that. Still, I have to go out and spend money for it to feel like Christmas. Before this week I had picked up a couple of trinkets for THE WOMAN and bought the bulk of the gifts for FDFM but that was it.
My buddies Michael and Dan were both home in the past couple of weeks. They are both back in the sand now, but they got a chance to spend some time with family so not all is wrong with the world. Both of them are good men and deserve better than they have gotten over the past few months. At least now they are on the backside of the current mission.
Being a full time dad and having to do the Christmas Eve gift assembly is starting to seem normal again. For so many years when I was single my Christmas Eve ritual was to get plastered and try not to wake up until the parades were over. That seems like such a waste now.
