The world is a hard place to be. It's harder if you're stupid.

It’s funny the things that dominate the headlines.

Late today there are two main stories in the news. One that could be the start of something really big, the other is a thug showing his true colors. The latter is getting the most press, naturally. So let’s start there.

Terrell Owens, punk thug that he is, has been kicked off of his NFL team. There are some legal terms associated with his coach’s actions but it boils down to a simple fact that Owens is a punk and was acting like it. In a league that lets you go to prison for the summer and come back to your job in the fall it takes a lot to get fired when you can still play. Owens is the best ball catcher on the field today, so for his team to send him home for the year shows how big an ass-clown he is.

His ‘conduct detrimental to the team’ was more than just asking for more money. It was a series of incidents that included taking a few swings at a fellow Eagles employee, trash talking his quarterback, screaming at his coach, and hanging his dirty laundry out in public. The ‘conduct detrimental to the team’ was an over paid street thug letting his thug-ness shine. If you watched the video of him on ESPN over the weekend you could tell that he thinks he is in the right to act the way he does.

The Eagles are better off without him, even if they don’t win another game this season. The team always has to come first. Any other answer is going to be the wrong one.

The other big news item is that Paris is burning. I can not promise that this is the start of the next revolution in that country. If French President Chirac and his band of merry men can’t get the violence under control in the next couple of nights it might well become the end of their Empire.

It’s a numbers game over there right now. The core of the problem is that for the past couple of generations France has been importing Muslims to do the low end work. Work that proper Frenchmen no longer wanted to do; essentially the crap jobs that only pay minimum wage. These people have been in the country long enough to want more out of life for their families and feel like they can’t get it. Which is probably true in some parts of Paris. The two kids getting electrocuted while fleeing the police was nothing but a good reason to start something.

I’ve got no love for Chirac but this is something that is going to shape policies on Europe for the next few years. The French have to figure out how to deal with a large group of discontented people, and find a way to bring them completely into their society. If not the Muslims could find themselves in possession of a good chunk of Europe. And when that happens there really will be a new world order for us Americans to deal with.

More later.

The weekend weather was terrific so I got a bit lazy about updating the blog.  I guess it’s just that way sometimes.

I missed my first hole-in-one by less than ten feet this weekend.  More proof that even blind squirrels find nuts before winter sets in.

The announcement of the day is that I am almost famous.  Again.  One of the book reviews I’ve done for Nights and Weekends dot com has been quoted on the publisher’s website.  You’ll note that I didn’t get credited by name.  Which, if I made my living doing reviews would really suck.  Since I don’t, it’s a bummer but nothing to piss and moan over.

Anyway, the week is off to a good start and that’s nothing to complain about.

Back with more later.
