TC the Terrible

We have a guy here at the office that acts like he really needs a friend.  He’s a bit of a dweeb, but not a totally bad guy.

I’ve always had a thing for Ms. Nicole Kidman.  I don’t know if it’s the red hair and pale skin, or those psychotic eyes but something about her really trips my trigger.  Back when she and that short gay guy she was covering for got divorced I made a vow to become her biggest stalker and to win her heart in some insanely dramatic fashion.  My rather limited finances kept me from jetting out to California and completing my master plan.

Time passed and the urge to become a power stalker eventually faded.  I moved on and she seemed to have never noticed that I had not broken into her house and stole her intimate things.  Both of us had our new lives to lead.

Now she’s in DC stealing rides on the Metro and I’m off the market.  I have real doubts that THE WOMAN would be consent to my unrelenting pursuit of Nicole.  THE WOMAN is very understanding, but she may feel that I would be going a bit overboard.

Yeah, yeah the White Sox won the World Series. We get it that they finally got to the Series and did something with the chance, but let’s face it, that happens every year.  Not for the Sox, but for somebody.  As long as the owners and players act like grown ups and don’t cancel the Series one team is going to win it.

The real sports stories in sports yesterday were about two people, not two teams.  Those two people, Sheryl Swoopes and Fisher DeBerry, exposed a part of the sports world that none of like to think about; the bigotry part.  You’d think that we’d have gotten past it when Hank Aaron broke the Babe’s home run record and didn’t get mugged on his way to the team bus after the game.

Swoopes is probably the only woman playing in the WNBA with a name that John Q. Public would recognize.  Hell, she’s the only female that Nike has branded a shoe around, that’s impressive.  She outed herself to ESPN THE MAGAZINE and their website ran her story yesterday.  In a league that has always had a problem knowing how to market itself this is going to cause some real problems.  The WNBA has a couple of other self-acknowledged lesbians as active players and has struggled with the image that there were a couple of dozen more that were lurking behind closed doors.  Weather or not that’s true the management of the WNBA needs to get a handle on how to deal with their biggest star coming out, and how to market to the gay fan.  It sounds like a good portion of support for the league comes from that segment.  If they could figure that out, it be a real first for sports.

Then we have Coach DeBerry reaching back to the sixties.  His quote that blacks, “can run very well” is a problem.  Great.  That is just what we need today; another old white guy drawing racial distinctions because his football team got beat.  Yes, the majority of running backs in the NFL are black; and yes the current world record sprint and dash times are all owned by blacks.  That has no real bearing on the fact that the Air Force Academy got beat in a football game.  They got beat because they are a service school whose purpose is to turn out military officers, not pro football players.  Army has lots of blacks on their team and they have the same problems.  Navy does better because they schedule smarter.

Of course this comes from a school that was recently investigated by the freaking Federal Government for anti-Semitic policies.  They try to keep the Jews on campus in check but complain that there are not enough blacks?  The Air Force needs to get a handle on things out in Colorado quickly.

So, yeah I’m glad for the Sox.  I can’t wait to see how the WNBA and Air Force handle yesterday’s headlines.  You’d think that by now we’d be over all this crap.
