The Redskins are hanging on to Ramsey until the end of the year. At least that’s the word in this morning’s Washington Post. The ‘Skins were contacted by the New York football Jets about making a trade for Ramsey but the conversation only lasted ‘about 10 seconds.’
This could mean a couple of things.
- The Redskins don’t think Brunell can last the entire season and need a solid insurance plan.
- Coach Gibbs knows that rookie Jason Campbell isn’t going to be ready quickly enough to take over for Ramsey and has to hang on to Ramsey to fill that gap, if only for a couple of weeks.or,
- The Jets didn’t have anything of real value to offer the Redskins.
My money is on reason number three. The Jets don’t really have anything that they would be willing to part with other than next year’s draft picks.
Ramsey would fill a real need for the Jets and have a chance to show that Gibbs is being wrong and hard headed in his choice of quarterbacks. He would have trouble, I’m sure, with the new playbook but he’s already used to working with Laveranues Coles who was traded to New York in the offseason. — 30 —
