Week one I was two games under .500, then I broke even last week. It stands to reason that this week I’ll finish up at least a game or two above .500. I’m not making a promise or anything, just pointing out a trend in the numbers. Heck, even Mark Maske of the Post is having a hard time getting much better than that, and he makes a living with this crap.

Which is something I’ve always wondered about. If all these points spread guys you see on television are so damned good, why are they working on Sunday morning? You’d think that they would have made a fortune and retired by now. I know I would have.

And now, for purely recreational and conversational purposes, here are this week’s picks.

Bengals – Carson Palmer is hot right now, but this is his first real test.

Buffalo – Atlanta isn’t good enough to win without Vick at the top of his game.

Colts – Last week must have felt great to the Browns, but Favre is a legend on a bad team and Manning is building his legend with the best Colts team since Johnny U.

Packers – Their chances would be better if Mike Sherman would let Favre play on both sides of the ball. As it is, he should be enough to get a win this week.

Jaguars – Better than the conventional wisdom at the start of what could be a very good year.

Eagles – Two top tier wide outs face off, but only one has a top tier quarterback. You do the math.

Panthers – Off to a another Super Bowl season type of start.

Titans – If they can beat the Ravens then we know they can beat the Rams.

Saints – No Moss! No Moss!

Seahawks – The Cards aren’t living up to expectations, but should keep it close enough to be interesting this weekend.

Cowboys – They let one get away from them Monday night, but the Niners have no Defense to keep it close enough for a repeat of that game.

Patriots – This one has Game of the Week written all over it, and Brady always wins the important games.

Chargers – Eli is looking good, but the ‘Bolts are looking desperate, and the game is on their home turf.

Chiefs – It could be a fluke, but the Chiefs look like they have it all together this year.

That’s the picks, back with more stuff later today.
