We’ve been laughing at work about this show for a couple of months now. The whole idea is ludicrous

E-Ring, a hootably corny glorification of the military, teams hunky young Benjamin Bratt (shirtless in his very first scene) as an irreverent officer with Dennis Hopper as his crusty-but-lovable commander, the two of them are apparently all that stands between peace and catastrophe. The title refers to one of “the five rings of the Pentagon,” the one that must be consulted before any military action is taken. Unfortunately the two heroes are pretty much chained to their desks, and the derring-do is derring-done by supporting players in the field.

I think you can file this under “Must NOT See TV.”

Last week was a disaster. Let’s see if I can begin the long road to redemption this week.

In order of kickoff times:

Steelers – Carr is no Big Ben.
Bears – the Lions defense isn’t the challenge the ‘Skins were last week
Bengals – Better coached and equally talented, Cincinnati gets an impressive win.
Colts – Jaguars can keep it close, but Peyton will find cracks just like last week.
Ravens – Titans pose no threat to Ray Lewis and crew.
Patriots – one of the best games this week. Could go either way.
Bills – Bucs no longer a team to be scared of.
Eagles – will win despite T.O. but expect some antics from him on his old field.
Cardinals – did I really just type that?? Martz can’t coach and Green can.
Falcons – Seattle doesn’t have the horses on defense to stop Vick.
Jets – ‘Fins got lucky in week one. Jets are looking to take their pain out on somebody.
Green Bay – Favre will have to be stellar, but Browns still aren’t ready to stop anybody.
Chargers – Bolts will be able to regain some face after last week’s stunning loss.
Chiefs – Expect Collins to self destruct and the real Moss to show up.

Monday night

Giants – Saints emotion only gets them so far, and Giants are at home.
Cowboys – Brunell’s tank is empty. Jason Campbell will start after the BYE next week.

There it is, my predictions for Week 2 of the NFL. Don’t mortgage the house based on my opinion. We don’t have room for you in our basement.
