The world is a hard place to be. It’s harder if you’re stupid.

Back on the 9th of this month I made a cryptic posting, promising to explain it in a few days. Well, things happened and I more or less forgot about it.

SECOND DAUGHTER, FIRST MARRIAGE (SDFM) has decided to join the United States Navy. Her ship date is 6 December, which means she’ll be in basic training at Great Lakes, IL during the dead of winter. Nobody ever said the child was intelligent. I’ve got a couple of issues about her joining the Navy, but mostly because I’d hoped that one of my kids would join the military. THE BOY thinks that she’s joined the GRAVY, and is having a hard time getting the logistics of that straight in his head.

The briefing that I was slated to do for a one star this afternoon got pushed to early next week. Pretty typical for around here. It gives me more time to prepare, but less time to make the changes that he is going to want to see.

In deference to the OFFICE GIRLFRIEND I’ll keep this week’s picks short and sweet.

  • Redskins
  • Ravens
  • Bengals
  • Raiders
  • Chargers
  • Jaguars
  • Eagles
  • Saints
  • Colts
  • Buccaneers
  • Giants
  • Falcons
  • Cardinals
  • Panthers

Mark Maske of the Post and I are in about 90% agreement this week. Either I’m going to have a really good week, or he’ll be job hunting soon. Which is what Ramsey should at least be allowed to do. More than one team out there could use a tough young kid with a strong arm. Come to think of it, he already plays for a team like that.
Enjoy your weekend.

Looks a bit like our house these days.

  • Hurricane Katrina has had some pretty unusual spin offs, but this one is something that most people would have never thought of.  I doubt that more than 10 or 12 of these are performed, but it’ll keep the local Baptist preacher in new material for a few weeks.
  • I tried the new Coke Zeroâ„¢ at lunch today. It had exactly that, zero flavor.  From what I hear it is a big improvement over Diet Cokeâ„¢ so I guess that is a good thing.
  • My stress level has really been up the past couple of weeks.  Not really sure why, but I do know that the month of October is going to be busy for both me and THE WOMAN.  On top of all of my work related stuff, and having FOUR OF THE FIVE KIDS under roof, I’m starting back to school next week.  Maybe that’s it.
  • THE WOMAN found a place called Top Golf that has a unique twist.  The balls have computer chips embedded and they give you feedback and points based on how close you come to the ‘greens’.  While the idea has merit the execution is poor.  To start with it costs almost $6 for 20 balls.  If you don’t land close to the ‘greens’ or ‘pins’ then you get zero points.  For a family of four to play two games (about 45 minutes worth) the cost was close to sixty dollars.  Not much of a value in my mind.

I’ll be back with more later.
