Life is starting to straighten out a little bit around the house. FIRSTDAUGHTER, SECOND MARRIAGE (FDSM) is in Memphis with The Biological and THE WOMAN’S parents. From the sounds of things she’s having a great time, but at the same time having to baby sit her Biological quite a bit.
My boy JP (who looks nothing like me) is really moving up in the world. He took a week of vacation from where I used to work and came back to a fat promotion. Not bad for a kid that was on the corporate crap list not that long ago. This is like the fourth or fifth person that has been promoted since I left, which makes me really proud of the effort I put into teaching some of them the ropes when they were first hired. JP isn’t really one of the guys that I trained, but his attitude really mirrored mine. That’s one more reason I’m impressed that he got the nod.
We’re coming out from under all of the boxes finally. This time we signed a two year lease so it should be a while before we have to endure this nightmare again. The kids really seem to like the place so that makes life a good bit easier for all of us. The owner left us his trampoline and a fort style swing set. THE BOY loves it. Plus, he did his room in superhero posters and Batman stickers.
I saw Batman Begins and Fantastic Four both this weekend. My feelings are mixed on both accounts. The spirit of each was right on target but the execution was really lacking. At least Katie Holmes won’t be returning in the next Batman. It’s too hard to believe that any woman with her head on straight would stay around a Bruce Wayne type for very long. Jessica Alba wasn’t quite white enough to be a really good Sue Storm, but she is fun to watch so we can let that one slide.
FIRST DAUGHTER, FIRST MARRIAGE (FDFM) was home well in advance of the bombings on the London underground. Nothing to worry about on that front. THE SISTER I STILL TALK TO (TSST) was a tad bit worried about me (touching) when she heard that security had been stepped up on the DC Metro. I’ve seen a few more cops on the walk ways since last week but that’s about it for the added security. You could drop a bomb on this town and we wouldn’t flinch as long as the Nats are holding on to first place.
FDR gets too much credit for have great speeches during WWII. It was Churchill that knew how to use the language to rally his countrymen and give them the strength to carry on. Though the enemy has changed in the past half century, and though England is no longer the power that she once was his words still hold as much meaning as they did when he uttered them over the BBC airwaves.
“We shall not flag or fail. We shall go to the end.”
“We shall fight them on the beaches, we shall fight them on the landing grounds, we shall fight them on the fields and in the streets, we shall fight them in the hills, we will never surrender.”
“Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yeild to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
Do you think that a Gore, Kerry, Dean, et. all would say or even understand that kind of moral courage?
