Kinder and Gentler. Yeah, Right.

Just for grins and giggles. . .

. . . I checked out the FBI’s sex offender web site today. This guy lives less than a couple of blocks from my place back in Memphis. Pretty damned scary if I do say so myself.

Lots of little things taking place right now.

The creeps at the Federal Election Commission are pushing to make blogging about elections a crime. Mostly liberals are on the FEC so it’s a pretty clear slap at the right wingers that exposed Kerry and Rather last time around. I guess they don’t realize that this is the kind of change that can come back to bite them later. Not to mention trampling on those First Amendment rights that used to be the cornerstone of their rhetoric.

On that front the current push by Republicans to end filibusters in the Senate is not the smartest of moves either. Not only does that fly in the face of the Constitution, but some day they are going to be back in the minority and need a tool to stop the Democrats. If they just look back to the early days of the Clinton era it was the only thing they had going for them.

Chew on that for a while.

More to come later.

Not a bad weekend at all.

The weekend went really well for us. The wife and I snuck in a couple of rounds of golf and saw a movie with the five year old.

He’s taken to calling me ‘dad’ a couple of times a day. That makes me feel really good, because the two of us are almost that close. It also makes me feel bad because I’ve never intended to replace his biological father. We spend a good bit of time working on projects and talking about stuff. For a midget he’s got a lot of insight into how the world works. Plus, he knows the difference between a Phillips head and a flat head screwdriver.

His best friend came over for the afternoon on Friday and they nearly tore the house down playing together. They got into fights over whose turn it was with the cool toys, but got over it just as quickly. I love the way that guys can do that.

The boss was out today so my long weekend got extended by an extra day. Not at all a bad thing.

Rocking out

The band of the day is Apocalyptica folks. They’ve been called Rock and Resin, but I’m not sure if that’s really the right term or not. Anyway, they have a slam-jam version of Enter The Sandman that serves as an excellent counter to 1985 or Stacy’s Mom. Both of which are fine songs when you have the taste for bubble gum in your ears.

Still, it would be nice to hear a band that could move me like Skynard again. After all, how many true Americans can’t listen to Sweet Home without cranking the volume knob all the way to 10? Or is that just me showing my age again?

I’m out on the links for the next four days. Take care and guard your red Swingline staplers.

Ciao.
